The SCB The Securities Commission of The Bahamas, the regulator that registers and supervises crypto businesses under the DARE Act. Glossary publishes a monthly Register of Digital Asset Businesses under the DARE Act The Digital Assets and Registered Exchanges Act 2024, the Bahamian law that requires crypto businesses operating in or from The Bahamas to register with the Securities Commission. Glossary 2024. The edition dated 30 September 2026 lists 35 registered firms plus FTX Digital Markets, whose registration is suspended while it is in official liquidation. The PDF is accurate but hard to read, so we have decoded it below.
Registered, licensed: what the words mean
Strictly, the SCB registers digital asset businesses; “licensed” is everyday shorthand. The register uses four types: DAE + DAB (approved to operate a digital asset exchange as well as other activities), DAB (digital asset business), RF (a firm already registered with the SCB, here a bank, approved for digital asset business) and FCSP (a financial and corporate service provider with the same approval). Each firm is approved for specific activities, so a registration for Custodial Someone else, usually an exchange, holds the keys for you. Easy, but you rely on that company staying solvent and honest. Glossary does not let a firm run an exchange. Three firms are “approved on condition”. The rules behind all this are on our crypto regulation page.

Which firms serve Bahamian retail customers?
The register does not say, and the numbers suggest very few do. Of 2.16 million clients across the sector at the end of 2025, only 1,376 lived in The Bahamas. Bahamas-registered firms mostly serve the world from Nassau.
A few points we could verify. OKX’s terms say Bahamas residents are served by its El Salvador entity, while OKX Bahamas FinTech serves institutions and a closed group of Mexican users (OKX review). Gate runs a Bahamas page and calls itself SCB-regulated (Gate review). Uphold Worldwide holds an exchange registration (Uphold review). The Bitfinex entities show their CEO, compliance officer and MLRO posts as vacant on the register. SunCash and Cash N’ Go are local Sand Dollar wallet providers registered for custody only; we found no evidence that either sells crypto (SunCash review). Capital Union Bank, Bank J. Safra Sarasin, Delchain and Galaxy target private, professional or institutional clients, covered in our OTC guide.
What changed since November 2025
Comparing the 30 November 2025 register with the 30 September 2026 edition: B2B Prime Services Bahamas, Levant Advisors, TransFi Bahamas and WG Capital were added, ST Global Markets Ltd no longer appears, and Quantfury Trading Ltd is now Quantfury Trading Americas Ltd. The longer trend is steady growth, from 10 firms at the end of 2022 to 18, 25, 32 and now 35, even as on-chain activity linked to The Bahamas has fallen by more than 70% since its late-2022 peak. Only 20 firms were active (live or authorised to start) at 31 August 2026; the SCB does not say which. It is also watching three suspected unregistered services.
Global exchanges that are not on the register
Many platforms Bahamians use are not SCB-registered, including Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, Bybit, Crypto.com, Gemini and CEX.IO. That does not make them unregulated. CEX.IO, for example, holds a UK FCA cryptoasset registration (FRN 1007192), US FinCEN money services business status and a Bank of Spain VASP registration; see our CEX.IO review. The practical difference is recourse: with a foreign platform, your complaint goes to its home regulator, not to the SCB.
Licensed abroad, open to Bahamians
If you choose a global platform, check its licences on the regulators’ own registers and start with a small card purchase.
How to check a firm in five minutes
- 01
Start at the SCB website
Go to the registrant search page on scb.gov.bs and open the latest DARE register. The PDF address changes every month, so do not trust old links.
- 02
Match the exact legal name
Scammers borrow real names with one word changed. Compare the company name, address and website against the register entry.
- 03
Match the activity
A custody-only registration does not cover trading. Check the activity column covers what you are being offered.
- 04
Ask the SCB directly
Not listed or unsure? Email sud@scb.gov.bs or info@scb.gov.bs, or call 242-397-4100, before you send anything.
Frequently asked questions
Which crypto companies are licensed in The Bahamas?
As at 30 September 2026, 35 firms are registered with the Securities Commission under the DARE Act 2024. Nine hold exchange registrations, including OKX Bahamas FinTech and Uphold Worldwide. Others include Gate Global, Bitfinex, Galaxy Bahamas, Capital Union Bank, Delchain and SunCash. FTX Digital Markets is still listed, with its registration suspended.
How do I check if a crypto company is registered with the SCB?
Open the SCB’s registrant search page at scb.gov.bs, download the latest DARE register, and match the firm’s exact legal name and activities. If it is not listed, email sud@scb.gov.bs or call 242-397-4100 before sending any money.
Is Binance or Coinbase licensed in The Bahamas?
No. Neither appears on the 30 September 2026 DARE register, and nor do Kraken, Bybit, Crypto.com, Gemini or CEX.IO. These firms hold licences in other countries, so Bahamian regulatory recourse does not apply to them.
Is “SCB Limited” the Securities Commission?
No. SCB Limited is a private company registered for crypto exchange services, with an address in Lyford Cay. The regulator is the Securities Commission of The Bahamas.
What does “approved on condition” mean on the register?
The SCB has approved the registration subject to conditions the firm must meet. Three firms carry this label as at 30 September 2026: BB Trade Bahamas, ByeBnk Beyond the Seas and Levant Advisors. The register does not publish the conditions.
