OKX is one of the biggest names with a Bahamian registration: OKX Bahamas FinTech Company Limited sits on the Securities Commission register with an office in Lyford Cay House. That makes it tempting to assume a Nassau resident opening an OKX account is protected by Bahamian rules. The terms say otherwise, and the details matter before you deposit.

The Bahamas entity and who it serves

The SCB The Securities Commission of The Bahamas, the regulator that registers and supervises crypto businesses under the DARE Act. Glossary register (30 September 2026) lists OKX Bahamas FinTech as both a digital asset exchange and a digital asset business. It is one of only five firms approved for Staking Locking up certain coins to help secure a blockchain in exchange for a yield. DARE-registered staking providers must warn clients about the risks in writing. Glossary and one of six for derivatives. On the 31 July 2026 register its compliance officer and MLRO posts were listed as “Vacant”.

OKX’s terms (updated 17 September 2026) say the Bahamas company serves Mexico residents who registered between 16 November 2022 and 28 August 2023, plus certain institutional users. Bahamas residents appear under OKX Fintech, S.A. de C.V. in El Salvador, among users who “may access specific products and services”. So a retail account opened from Nassau is most likely with the El Salvador company, outside SCB oversight.

This is not unusual. The SCB’s October 2026 supervision report found that registrants served about 2.16 million clients at the end of 2025, but only 1,376 of them lived in The Bahamas. Most Bahamas-registered crypto firms, OKX included, use their licence to serve clients abroad rather than locals.

Licences elsewhere

OKX Fintech El Salvador is registered with the National Commission of Digital Assets (PSAD-0052, May 2025) and the Central Reserve Bank’s Bitcoin provider registry, under the Financial System Superintendency. Other group companies hold a MiCA licence in Malta, a Lithuanian VASP registration, US registrations, a Dubai VARA licence and Singapore approval. None helps a Bahamian with a complaint, but they show the group runs regulated businesses. Compare locally registered names on our SCB register guide.

Funding, P2P and fees

There is no Bahamian bank rail into OKX (see Bahamian banks and crypto), and we could not confirm a direct withdrawal to a Bahamian bank either; see our cash-out routes. In practice you deposit crypto bought elsewhere, or use OKX P2P (peer-to-peer) Buying crypto directly from another person, with a platform holding the seller’s coins in escrow until payment arrives. Glossary. On 21–22 October 2026 OKX’s P2P returned an error for BSD, while the US-dollar book showed about 200 adverts on its first page. Since B$1 equals US$1 that works, but most USD sellers want Zelle or Wise, which need a US or Wise account. OKX holds the seller’s coins in Escrow A neutral holding arrangement: the platform locks the seller’s crypto and releases it only when the seller confirms your payment arrived. Confirm in writing which company holds your account. Read which products are open to you, since derivatives are high risk for beginners.
